While we were there, I ask Blossom, the barista, if she would be a part of my ongoing project about coffee baristas around the city, and she did.  Plus, she was really pretty.Blossom:

This is Sal and Katie.  I realized when I got back home that they were the only ones in my pictures, but then I thought about it and remembered that everyone else was too close to me to focus.

Sal, from Jordan, had never seen a redneck.  So, we were trying to describe one to him.  This guy wasn’t really a redneck, but it was, like, 40 degrees outside, and he was wearing a wifebeater.  So… he made the blog.

We went to Surrey’s on Magazine Street, which was really cool because it’s only about a 30 second drive from my house.  Once we were all five seated at a quaint little two person table, I began to notice the most eclectic mixtures of food.  And I’m not talking about putting mayonnaise on a hamburger (which I do not recommend, by the way); I’m talking about eggs-salmon-cream cheese-and-onions.  That was actually on the menu, and it seemed that everything I looked at was along these lines.  But I don’t say that to be a bad thing.  What I found was it was quite the opposite.

After playing around and looking at the menu the waitress reappeared to take our orders.  I was, as usual, not prepared.  But I figure, I’m 25 now, and I’ve been doing this same thing for too long.  I’m not going to change.  And that’s when I instinctively order the first thing I see, which was Shrimp & Grits.  But these shrimp were marinated in barbecue sauce and set in grits and chopped green onions.  It came highly recommend.  So high that was the majority of our table ordered it.  If I had really known how good it was I would have order two!  Aaaand probably wasted a bunch of it.  Oh, did I mention there was bacon.  I’m not too crazy about that.  Allergic, in fact, so I picked that out.  Normally I’m not big on ordering grits because they never fail to be under seasoned (what’s this about??), but these grits were in rare form.  They tasted good! As a matter of fact, I would recommend to anyone who doesn’t like grits to try these these grits.

They’ll change your life, man.

After Surrey’s we migrated further down Magazine street to visit Lucky You, in which the store owner promptly said, “so you all do know each other!”

I think that’s a sign guys.

There was a lot of candy.  I got an orange Tootsie Pop.
