Oh, and isn't this such a great video? Speaking of Jay-Z, I was lost in that endless tunnel in YouTube where you're watching a video and then you click on one of the related videos to the right--which only reminds you of something else, so you start a new search. And inside of 25 minutes you have 41 different YouTube windows open in your browser. Anyway, I was doing that when I came across 99 Problems. I think it's my alltime fav Jay-Z song. This one's good, too.
Heard this song on the radio yesterday. Awesomeness. Too awesomeness. Thought you should know.
graffiti on the carver
Went to visit the old Carver High School Saturday. It has been tagged from top to bottom, and that is literally the only attention is has received since Hurricane Katrina. The water line is still clearly visible as you walk through the halls. Keyboards and flatscreen monitors are lay covered with the film left by the dirty water of four and a half years ago, and the peeling and cracked school desks are still arranged in rows, ready for class.
If I hadn't seen it so many times before, it would probably be surreal.

On a technical note, I used a polarizer filter while shooting here. In short, when shooting at an angle perpendicular to the Sun, it creates richer skies and adds more contrast to the darker areas. The more I can do in-camera, the happier a photographer I am.
As a caveat, polarizers can take away up to one and a half stops, so don't use them in low light.
Sarah
Sarah graciously let Katie and I shoot her Saturday morning. We set out in the lower Garden District, did a little entering (but no breaking--the doors were all open), found a lot of good graffiti, and had a really fun time!

We all took pictures in front of the AztekMonkeyThing.

in the city
The other day I put myself on assignment: go into parts of the city you've never been in, get kindof lost, and take pictures. In other words, do some much-overdue urban exploring.
p.s.
i love graffiti. One day in the ridiculously distant future I'll catalog and post it all.

Did a little Baton Rouge today
Rachel and I drove to Baton Rouge this afternoon to wander around and take some really cool pictures. As it turns out, there was also a two-day memorial service in progress at the LSU BCM for Frank Horton, the former leader of the then BSU. We met up with my parents who were happily catching up with some old long-time-unseen friends from their college days. One of their especially close friends was Kenny, pictured below. Yesterday, my Dad mentioned to him I was planning to be in Baton Rouge today and wanted to stop by. A little backstory: the last time I saw Kenny I was somewhat preoccupied ...being born. He asked if he'd be able to hold me again.
Probably not.
All in all, it was a good day!
